St Thomas’ Pre-school Playgroup

Partnership with Parents.

At St Thomas’ we strongly believe that parents are the first and enduring educators of their children. We want to help each child to achieve their full potential and we do this through planned activities which help the child towards the Early Learning Goals as laid down in Curriculum guidance for the foundation stage. In order to help each child at an individual and appropriate level we carry out observations on the children to help us see which areas need development.

We feel the best way to encourage and support the children is to work in partnership with you as parents, carers or guardians. With this in mind we have drawn up some details of what you can expect from us and what we would like to be able to rely on you for.

The Pre-school will;

*provide a safe and caring environment for all children.

*have suitably qualified and experienced staff at all sessions, this includes having a Police Check.

*ensure at least one of these staff has up to date First Aid training, at present we all have First Aid Certificates.

*send all staff on Child Protection training; we all attended training in 2006.

*make sure no visitors or volunteers have unsupervised access to any child or carry out intimate care of any kind.

*have staff available at the start and end of each session to give feedback of the morning or take information from parents.

*have formal consultations to discuss your child’s progress.

*make time for private conversations if requested by you between formal consultations.

*inform parents/carers of any problems during the morning.

*ensure parents/carers are aware of any accidents during the morning and ask you to sign the Accident Book.

*inform you immediately if any major accident occurs and give or seek any Emergency First Aid which maybe necessary.

*work with you to overcome any problems your child may have by regular meetings and planned strategies to provide continuity for your child.

*respect any dietary or religious customs or restrictions your child has.

*provide details, in writing, of any outing in advance, allowing parents to opt out of any outing. Bringing your child to Pre-school on the day of an outing gives consent.

*display all Policies and Procedures in the cloakroom and inform you of any changes.

*give you a copy of Information and Reminders for Parent/carers when your child starts Pre-school and a list of topics for each half term.

*not allow anyone, other than the usual carer, to collect your child.

*keep your child safe from the sun according to our policy.

*claim fees for your child from Herts County Council if you are on Benefits or as soon as they are eligible, i.e. the term after their third birthday.

The Pre-school expects parent/carers to;

*inform the staff of any changes at home e.g. personal circumstances, changes of address or phone number.

*provide details of emergency contacts if we are unable to contact either parent.

*collect your child from Pre-school if they are unwell.

*keep your child away from Pre-school for 48 hours if they have had diarrhoea and/or vomiting.

*inform the Pre-school manager if your child has any infectious diseases.

*inform the person in charge if your child is to be collected by someone other than their usual carer. If something happens during the morning and their usual carer is unable to come, Pre-school must be informed by phoning the mobile number i.e. 07703 664685.

*pay fees termly in advance, by half term. Other methods of payment can be made by prior agreement with the owner/manager.

*show respect and care for books from the Pre-school library.

*read letters sent home and policies which are on display in the cloakroom.

*talk to the Pre-school staff if they have concerns about their child, either at Pre-school or by phoning the owner/manager on Watford 350206.

*inform the Pre-school of restrictions of food, drink or special religious/cultural practices.

*help on the Parent/carers rota if they are able.

*not undertake intimate care e.g. take to the toilet, children, other than their own, on visits to the Pre-school.

*provide a hat in the summer for your child & make sure they have sun cream on before they come to Pre-school.

*inform the Pre-school, in writing, if you do not want Observations undertaken on your child, or photos taken of them, or if you do not want them to take part in a specific activity.

*sign the Emergency First Aid Consent form or give reasons why First Aid can not be given.

*ensure your child is collected promptly at 12.15pm or 1.15pm if they stay for lunch club.
