St Thomas’ Pre-school Playgroup
Health & Safety Policy.
St.Thomas' Pre-school Playgroup will, as a responsible employer, make every endeavour to ensure that it's employees, children and parents work in a healthy safe environment.
*Each employee is responsible for ensuring that the work, which he/she undertakes, is conducted in a manner that is safe to him/herself and also to the children. Regard should be given to the Risk Assessment Book which is kept in the store cupboard in the Pre-school room.
*Any injury to staff or children should immediately be written in the Accident Record Book, which is kept in the store cupboard in the Pre-school room. All entries in this book must be signed by a member of staff and the Pre-school leader. All parents will be informed of any injury their child sustains at the Pre-school and asked to sign the Accident Book. If any serious injuries occur the parent/carers will be informed immediately by phone.
*All parents will be asked to sign an emergency first aid consent form before their child starts at Pre-school.
*Staff will wear the plastic gloves provided, for cleaning up any body products/fluids.
*Disinfectant will be used to clean up all spills of urine, blood, etc.
*Children and staff must have cuts/grazes covered at all times.
*If children cut or graze themselves at Pre-school a plaster will be used to cover the area.
*Staff must check the list in the First Aid box for children who are allergic to plasters and apply a gauze and micropore dressing instead.
*A qualified First Aider will be at all Pre-school sessions.
*Anyone who has diarrhoea and/or vomiting must remain away from the Pre-school for at least 24 hours after the symptoms have gone.
*Children with infectious childhood diseases e.g. chickenpox must remain away from the playgroup until the child is no longer infectious. (See Karen or your G.P.)
*If child becomes unwell during the morning parent or carers will be informed and asked to collect the child.
*Any child who requires regular medication during Pre-school hours will have an individual procedure drawn up. This will state the times, type and dose of medication as well as which staff are able to give the medication. The parent or carer will sign at the end of each session to acknowledge the medication has been given. The parent or carer will inform the Pre-school if anything regarding the medication changes.
