St Thomas’ Pre-school Playgroup

Fire Procedure Policy.

In the event of a fire do not panic.

The designated fire exit from the Pre-school is via the fire door into the Pre-school garden. In the event of a fire all the children should be evacuated into the garden, which is the assembly point.

In the event of a fire by the designated fire door, evacuate the children via the secondary fire exit, which is next to the gym i.e. back into the main body of the church building and out of the fire doors straight into the car park. Take the children to the back fence and await instructions from the Fire Brigade.

In the event of both exits being blocked the large glass doors in the Pre-school can be opened and the children taken into the Church garden and await instructions from the Fire Brigade.

Each day the Pre-school manager will assume responsibility for the register, check all children have left the building and the doors are unlocked to allow the Fire Brigade access. The Manager will call the register at the assembly point. In the absence of the manager the Deputy will take these responsibilities.

A member of staff designated by the Manager will call the Fire Brigade; she will wait for them and let them know where the children are situated.

Other staff will take the children out of the building.

Do not convey a sense of panic to the children.

There is a fire extinguisher located next to the fire doors. Standing on top of the sink.

A fire drill will take place at least once every term and the record book filled in (this is kept in the cupboard with the First Aid Book). All staff will take part in at least one Fire Drill each year.
